Private sports event
Event description
Riding to Inspire Hope. The CycleAgainstCancer (CaC), 22 Stages - One Mission, is a 3,300-kilometre charitable endurance cycling expedition from Barcelona to Paris, beginning on 1 July 2026. The initiative will bring together 14 riders for a three-week journey across Spain and France to raise awareness and vital funds for Al Jalila Foundation.
The team will be riding from city to city on public roads while managing the physical, logistical, and mental demands of sustained long-distance cycling. The route tests endurance, resilience, and teamwork. The challenge is a fully private and independent charitable initiative organised exclusively by CaC. Founded on the belief that hope should be visible, shared, and actionable, CaC was created to empower individuals and families affected by cancer. Through endurance sport, the initiative transforms athletic challenge into meaningful community impact.
Each day presents a new stage requiring discipline, preparation, and collective commitment. At its core, CaC is about people — riders, survivors, families, caregivers, and supporters connected through lived experience. The team includes cancer survivors, business leaders, and members of the UAE cycling community, many of whom are riding in honour of loved ones affected by the disease.
The initiative was launched by Guido De Wilde, a stage 4 colon cancer survivor and long-standing supporter of Al Jalila Foundation. Aged 68, Guido’s story is one of resilience and purpose. Having previously raised significant funds for cancer patients, he now returns to inspire others by demonstrating that life after cancer can be lived with strength and meaning.
While completing the full 22-stage route is an extraordinary endurance feat, the riders recognise that their challenge cannot compare to the daily realities faced by cancer patients and their families. Their mission is simple: to inspire hope, build awareness, and raise meaningful funds to support treatment, research, and patient care. Every kilometre represents solidarity with those fighting cancer. Every stage represents resilience. Every pedal stroke is dedicated to families navigating one of life’s most difficult journeys.
Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and mobilise communities around causes that matter. Through CaC, endurance becomes impact. Personal challenge becomes collective hope. Athletic determination becomes a platform for meaningful change. This initiative transforms physical resilience into tangible support for families in need.
